Ceramic Tile
Removal Can Be A Tough Do-It-Yourself Project
You may have heard that ceramic tile removal is a real
nightmare. I can attest that it is. There is no way around
it. If you have to get rid of an existing tile motif in your
kitchen, bath or any other room in your home you can expect
to find yourself in a heap of mess. Even though ceramic tile
removal is awful there are times when there is no other
alternative.
The salmon pink tiles in our bathroom just had to go. There
was no way around it. Painting them was not really an option
because I really hated the overall look and layout of the
design. Ceramic tile removal was our only option. We just
didn’t really think about whether or not we wanted to hire a
professional to do the job.
When it comes to a project like this many homeowners like us
really think that we can complete tasks in a weekend no
matter how taxing the job is. However, until you have
yourself two weeks into a ceramic tile removal project you
soon realize that a professional team would have saved you a
lot of headaches.
After reading a little about ceramic tile removal we knew
that the task would be challenging. We just underestimated
the project completely. I guess that you just have to
experience some things to fully appreciate how difficult
they are. Nevertheless, we found sound advice on how to take
on the ceramic tile removal task and we went to work.
The first thing we did was look for cracked tiles. You might
think that cracked tiles are a bad thing but they are
actually wonderful, wonderful things if you are trying to
remove ceramic tiles from a space. While there were one or
two cracked pieces, we were a little dismayed that there
weren’t more.
The cracked tiles are a sign that the ceramic tile removal
project will run a little smoother because the pieces are
not really fastened very well. The looser the pieces, the
easier they are to remove. We must have had pieces that were
fastened very well. We had a pretty hard time getting them
loose.
Then there is the dust. You have no real idea how much dust
a ceramic tile removal project will product. We tried tarps
and plastic but the dust hung in the air for weeks and
gradually settled in various places around the house.
These are just two minor details in our experience with
ceramic tile removal. Before you delve into a project, you
might want to consider consulting a professional.
